Embers ablaze

Embers ablaze

A present from Prometheus to the mortals,

An offense for which he was sentenced to a torment eternal.

The gift came in unimaginable shapes and forms,

But it always managed to keep his beloved mortals warm.

You call them sparks, I call them flames,

In the end they're all just mere names.

Enlighten a home or engorge a town,

Were it a person, you'd regret making them frown.

Always to be worshipped, n'ver to be mocked.

Meet a dreaded fate those that dare it anger, to no shock.

An ever-starved entity,

Bound by no sanity.

Burning with the light of a thousand Suns,

Leaving behind nothing, restrained by none.

Sees no child, nor any old,

Steals lives, leaves them dead cold.

Dramatic, putting shame to theater.

A creation feared by its own creator.

The heart of a fierce fest,

The place for Goddess Vesta to rest,

In the temple it would nest,

By its irridescence, the empire was blessed,

Sacred to Rome,

Doused, along with their home,

A parental personality,

Witnessed all of humanity.

Young bonds bridged over bonfires,

Raising the heat, making puddings Yorkshire,

Families camping under the moonlight,

Taking in its glow, watching sparks take flight.

Sculptor for the stone of civilizations,

Potter for the clay of fauna & forestations.

Providing torridity, handing cultures prosper,

In celebration and in times so somber.

Darkness lurks in no street,

When it flares its thermal fleece.

Curious minds fuel it would,

Eating all its supper, like no entity could.

Centerstage for narrating all the classics,

Widening eyes of the greatest nerds and geeks.

Making the inedible melt in ones mouth,

Making cataclysmic winters sustainable in poles North or South.

The starter for a love story so cozy,

Or the end of a tragedy insurmountably sorry,

In a world so lonely,

Banding strangers together, on a street snowy.

A ray of hope, a symbol of rebellion,

Shaping the universe, from B.C. to Anno Dominion.

Blessing the heavens with its glow,

Burning hell with its indigo inferno.

When you encounter it in your company,

Ponder upon it, till you get your next epiphany!
